I’m very pleased to offer this luscious PAIR of circa-1905 Early Electric pendants with glass floral shades!!
This listing is for TWO matching fixtures.
For much of the 19th-century, gas lighting was the norm. Then, very late in the century, gas/electric combination lighting was introduced, and the White House was electrified in 1892. The era for combination lighting was brief, and by the late 1890s electric lighting started making inroads.
Hence, this pair represents the first generation of electric lighting. Their design and construction however still reflect an earlier era, like with the vertical pipes. While vital for a gas fixture, this was not required for an electric fixture, where a chain would have sufficed.
These interesting historical considerations aside, the fixtures are soooooo lovely.
And the shades? WOW! I’ve never offered fixtures with such shades. Unlighted, the upper parts are a kinda purple. Lighted, this turns into pink. There are also multi-colored flowers below. Fabulous! Fabulous! Fabulous!
Note how the ribbed shades match the ribbed ceiling canopies. I love this kind of attention to detail.
The patina is lovely, which I but gently polished. The patina is, as is normal, irregular and with dark spots (see images).
The scale of the fixtures makes them ideal for a hall or bathroom. You could also use the pair over a small kitchen island. The shades are 6-inches wide.
The length is 36-inches long. I cannot make this longer. I might be able to reduce the length; please contact me if this is important.
The sockets are turn-key. Clear Edison-style LED bulbs would be ideal.
The ceiling canopies are 3-3/4-inches wide. This may not cover a wide modern electrical box. However, a good hardware store can supply ‘cover plates’, which you can paint to match your ceiling.
With new wiring, this pair is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!
DETAILS: The fixtures accept standard base 60W bulbs (not included). You can use LED bulbs.
COLOR: See above.
SIZE: See above. As well, the fitters are 2-1/4-inches.
There’s no damage.
The sockets are original (and in fine shape) with new wiring.
SHIPPING: Insured shipping in the Continental US will be…FREE!
