1905 LARGE gas electric brass chandelier

I’m very pleased to offer this astonishing circa-1905 gas/electric brass chandelier!

For much of the 19th-century, gas lighting was the norm. In the last decade of the century, electric lighting started to make inroads, and gas/electric combination fixtures became popular. During the first decade of the 20th-century, gas lighting waned in popularity, and all-electric fixtures became widely available.

As such, the chandelier listed here represent a narrow window in the history of lighting. Which is kinda fabulous.

The chandelier has six arms. Three are electric. These are newly wired. The other three were originally for gas, as they remain today.

A cool idea would be to insert remote controlled LED votive “candles” where the gas jets were. So if you were to, say, have a party, the gas arms would appear to have flickering flames!

For the three electric arms, I suggest clear, Edison-style, 100W-equivalent dimmable LED standard base bulbs.

The chandelier is large! It’s a whopping 31-inches from shade-to-shade. It’s now 42-inches long; I can adjust this up/down. Just let me know!

There are GORGEOUS details abounding. On the bottom bowl are six exquisite anthemion motifs in cast brass. These mate with six acanthus motifs in cast brass. The three gas turn-keys are also beautifully detailed. Wow. Just wow!

The upper edge of the bottom bowl has a beaded detail in relief. This is matched on the original ceiling canopy.

I did not polish the brass so it retains its rich, mottled patina.

If have a home built in the 1900s, and if you’ve been looking for something extraordinary, this knock-out might be ideal.

The chandelier will be shipped with the vertical rod removed. This will be easy to re-attach.

This fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!
