1940s chandelier by Markel

Out of stock

I’m very pleased to offer this wonderful 1940s chandelier by Markel!

Markel first introduced this striking shade in the 1930s. Over the ensuing years Markel offered numerous iterations (chandeliers, surface-mounted, X final, Y finial, X vase, Y vase, and so on).

The ceiling canopy is curious. It pre-dates the fixture and, at first, I assumed it wasn’t original. But, it had the same gold finish as the other metal parts (which was original). So, I now believe the canopy is original. Its finish had decayed; I removed this and polished the brass. This will soon darken.

Under the shade is a delicious glass sphere.

The chain is distinctive. Threading through it is new cloth covered wiring.

The sockets and wiring are all new.

The color of the shade is distinctive, a kinda pale apricot.

This fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!

DETAILS: The fixture accepts three standard base 60W bulbs (not included).
COLOR: See above.
SIZE: The fixture hangs down 34-1/2-inches and is 16-inches wide. I can remove up to 11-inches of chain; I can add chain.
The only issue are several chips to the center hole of the shade. These however are covered by a brass disk and cannot be seen.
The porcelain sockets and wiring are new.
The finish of the shade has some subtle age spotting.
Most of the metal parts have been refinished in gold (as they were originally).
SHIPPING: Insured shipping in the Continental US will be…FREE!
