I’m very pleased to offer this extraordinary and incredibly rare opportunity:
TWO 1940s chandeliers by the incomparable Lightolier Company!
Beginning in the 1920s, and for many decades thereafter, the Lightolier Company (extant today of course) made some of the very finest fixtures. Their designs were always simply dazzling, and the quality was the very very very best. When you restore vintage lights such as I do, these aspects are so obvious they tend to jump out. It’s always a particular pleasure restoring a Lightolier!

When the fixtures were made they would have been about twice the price of comparable fixtures by other lighting companies. This premium was for the quality, design, and the Lightolier name. Kinda like the difference between a Chevy and a Rolls-Royce. This premium still applies today.
There are five hand-blown shades on each chandelier, and featuring wheel-cut designs, redolent of the late 1930s and early 1940s.
The stems are also glass! Incredible! And they, too, feature wheel-cut designs!
Then, there are ten beaded chains of brass! Wow!
It’s amazing that the chandeliers are so intact, as the original catalog image confirms. It’s all there!
Scale-wise, the chandeliers are ideal for a medium- to small-sized room. Or, the pair together in a larger room. With the shades the width is a bit over 18-inches. Without the shades the width is 16-wide.
Wholly restored and with new wiring, this pair is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!
DETAILS: The fixtures accept standard base 60W bulbs (not included).
COLOR: The fixtures retains their original “Colonial brass” finish. Glass.
SIZE: See above. As well, the fixtures hang down 27-inches. I can remove up to 5-inches of chain; I can add chain.
- One shade has a tiny chip to its upper edge. Tiny.
- Just above the glass finial is a brass cup. One has a stress crack along the side. This is not readily obvious.
- The sockets are original (and in fine shape) with new wiring and paper insulators. The exposed wire is new, and cloth-covered. Nice.
