1940s crystal chandelier by Markel

I’m very pleased to offer this gorgeous circa-1940 crystal chandelier by Markel!

Markel Electric Products (MEP) was founded by Joseph Markel (1888-1966) in 1920. Markel was born in Lithuania and came to the United States in 1891. The company was located at 145 Seneca Street in Buffalo, New York. A century ago, this was a bustling industrial area. Down the street was the thriving Larkin Company, and their globally famous Administration Building designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

The shade is stunning. The color is hard to describe. A kinda very pale apricot? It’s beautifully molded with rich designs, and all this really comes alive when the fixture is lighted.

Above the shade is an exquisite glass vase with wheel-cut designs. Stunning. Surrounding the vase is a 5-arm “fountain” which holds 5 crystals. Fabulous!

Under the shade is an original, and striking, amber-colored finial!

Note also the original chain and ceiling canopy.

All the wiring is new, and the vertical wiring is cloth-covered like the original. Nice.

This fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!

DETAILS: The fixture accepts six standard base 40W bulbs (not included).
COLOR: See above. As well, brass, glass.
SIZE: The fixture hangs down about 37-inches and is 16-inches wide. I can remove up to 14-1/2-inches of chain; I can add chain.
There’s no damage.
The sockets are original with new wiring.
The crystals were missing. But, as confirmed by the original catalog image, the new crystals are an exact match.
SHIPPING: Insured shipping in the Continental US will be…FREE!
