1940s Lightolier chandelier RARE
1 in stock
I’m very pleased to offer this rare and astonishing late 1940s chandelier by the incomparable Lightolier Company!
In all my many years of selling vintage light, this is the first time I have offered this beauty.
The shade is incredible. It is made of slumped glass (a post-war innovation) and its outer surface is covered with thousands of minute glass beads, with inset plume designs in pale pink and blue. Wow. Wow!
The “fountain” stem is glass, and glows wondrously when lighted.
Note also the oversize glass finial.
The metal components are aluminum, chrome-plated, and brass.
All the sockets are new, as is the wiring. The vertical wiring is cloth-covered like the original. Nice.
When this fixture was made it would have been about twice the price of comparable fixtures by other lighting companies. This premium was for the quality, design, and the Lightolier name. Kinda like the difference between a Chevy and a Rolls-Royce. This premium still applies today.
This fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!
DETAILS: The fixture accepts four standard base 60W bulbs (not included).
COLOR: See above.
SIZE: The fixture hangs down about 28-inches and is 17-1/2-inches wide. I can remove up to 9-1/2-inches of chain; I can add chain.
- I love writing this: there’s no damage. Wow.
- The porcelain sockets and wiring are new.
- The chain shows a subtle loss to the chrome-plating. This is normal.
SHIPPING: Insured shipping in the Continental US will be…FREE!
