I’m very pleased to offer this circa-1955 high-quality European-made 5-bulb chandelier.
I believe the chandelier was made in France.
The whole is quite heavy, and made of cast brass, or a brass/bronze mix. The carving is all in high relief, and gorgeous.
The ceiling canopy, as is common with French canopies, is too narrow for American electrical boxes. As such, above the French canopy, I added a stamped brass canopy (with a perfectly matched patina) so the electrical box would be covered. I doubt anybody will ever notice this discreet addition – an ideal French/American alliance.
Please note the distinctive chain.
Chandeliers with a neo-classical styling such as this, and quality, are rare. I was delighted to come across this one.
Wholly restored and with new sockets and wiring, this fixture is ready to hang, and comes with all the mounting hardware needed!
DETAILS: The fixture accepts candelabra base 60W bulbs.
COLOR: Brass with a bronze-like patina.
SIZE: The fixture hangs down 34-1/2-inches and is almost 21-inches wide. I can remove up to 8-inches of chain; I can add chain.
- I love writing this: there’s no damage.
- The sockets and wiring are new. The chandelier likely had cloth-covered wiring originally (there was no wiring when I purchased the fixture). Normally I would have used cloth-covered wiring in the restoration, but the French opening proved too narrow to run US-made cloth wiring through, and in the end I was forced to use plastic wiring. Luckily, it does not really register (see images).
- The candle covers are new.
